The Hazeltons

5 hours west of Prince George and you come to The Hazeltons (popl. 627). There is a pretty old town with refurbished period buildings and a stunning rail and road bridge 266 ft above the Bulkley valley and river. New Hazelton is famous for the Union Bank robbery in 1914 when a gang of armed bank robbers were thwarted in their plans by local gun toting residents. A shootout ensued, several men on both sides were shot and killed. The remaining robbers fled but were rounded up by a posse and convicted of murder. Welcome to the Wild West!
